What do community councils do?
The main role of community councils is to :-
- represent their local area
- consult with local residents
- pass their views on to public sector organisations such as SBC and NHS Borders etc.
There are 10 places, based on size of population, to be filled but if more than 10 nominations are received then membership will be decided by holding an election.
Elections are carried out every 3 or 4 years managed by SBC with some 70 community councils representing people in the Borders.
The below summary gives some idea of the things which the Community Council has been involved. A decision on the multi million pound Mart and village centre development could be made in near future and recently a 900 house development was granted approval by the Council. These plans will make radical changes to the village and will be high on the Community Council agenda to represent and support the villagers wishes during consultation on the detailed requirements.
