Newtown in Bloom Meeting 5th November 2015
Minutes
Present; Daryl, Hazel, Elaine, Margaret, George, Marlene, Wilma, Barbara
1 Winter Bedding
Nigel hopes to finish planting the winter bedding this week. The large green planters will have Bellis and Muscari, the brown planters small Narcissi, the wall baskets trailing violas and the entrance beds plants supplied by SBC with the addition of some tulips.
We have planted Bellis and Muscari outside SBC and Red Riding Hood tulips, Bellis and Primulas in the other barrels and planters.
Nigel has removed 7 barrels for storage over the winter.
2 Summer Bedding
Daryl has ordered the plug plants from Pentland Plants that Nigel will grow on for us. They are red and yellow begonias, Dichondra and Lysimachia. The plan is to have alternate red and yellow baskets along the wall.
Daryl and Marlene will see Bill Dodds to arrange the making up of the baskets for the businesses. These will also contain red and yellow begonias along with other plants.
Marlene will speak to Jimmy White about more planters for the main road.
3 Coffee Morning
The Coffee Morning and Plant sale went very well. After costs £336.76 was made. It was, once again, a really nice relaxed event with everyone enjoying themselves.
4 Christmas Lights
Christmas Lights Switch on event will take place on Sunday 29th November. The parade will leave Milestone at 5.30 and the lights will be switched on at 6pm.
Lynne Dickson is organising a Craft Fair. George will contact her to check the details.
Daryl, Hazel, Margaret and Elaine will organise the food. A shopping trip is planned for 23rd November.
Barbara, Marlene and Wilma will organise a tombola. Barbara will ask local businesses to provide prizes.
The Community Wing needs to be decorated before the event. Pat has offered to do this.
More volunteers are needed to help with the food, tombola, as stewards for the parade and to rattle donation buckets.
5 Collection Tins
Hazel has offered to visit the shops and pick up the collection tins on a regular basis, this was agreed to at the Community Council meeting last week.
The tins were collected last week and contained £100 which will be split between NIB and the Christmas lights.
Some of the tins need replacing, Frances Mayes (CC Treasurer) will arrange this.
6 AOB
The Co Op have funds to give to local groups. They have a poster in the shop asking for suggestions for local good causes. We need to make sure NIB/Christmas Lights is added to the list.
George will arrange for the bowser to be picked up by Hendersons for it's refit.
Hazel has spoken to Jamie Glover about felt for the shed roof. Once she hears back from him a course of action can be decided upon.
Barbara prepared a brief schedule of annual tasks relating to the plants. It outlines the main jobs to be done each month.
George was asked to prepare one for the maintenance jobs that NIB undertake around the village such as upkeep of the planters and barrels, cutting back of overhanging trees and shrubs, weeding and sweeping.
Next meeting Wednesday 3rd February 2016 - All welcome to come and join in.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
