Which Clinician should I see?
Our aim is to increase overall access to the right clinician to deal with your problem which is no longer necessarily a GP. As part of the changes, our receptionists have been instructed by the GP’s to ask for a brief explanation of the problem a patient has so they can match this with the right clinician. This may be a GP, an advanced nurse practitioner , a practice nurse, a health care assistant or a district nurse. We have produced a flow chart on the reverse side of this leaflet to help you decide. The advanced nurse practitioners are highly trained clinicians who can diagnose, treat and prescribe for most problems. They also have access to a GP for advice or input if required.
We very much appreciate that the changes can be unsettling and at times confusing. We also realise that some patients who have been used to seeing a GP and sometimes a specific GP for all their consultations for a number of years would prefer this to continue.
An ageing population coupled with a shortage of GP’s has put pressure on general practice in recent years across the country forcing primary care to re-think the way its services are delivered. One major development has been the introduction of the role advanced nurse practitioners into general practice.
At Eildon Medical Practice, the feedback has been very positive overall with the majority of patients happy to have quick access to a qualified clinician to deal with their problem and would be happy to see them again. We offer over 40 ANP appointments each day. This allows our GP’s to deal with more complex and long term problems in the pre-bookable slots.
We ask for your support through this phase. If you have any questions , our receptionists will be happy to help.
